Sediment Logs
Sediment Logs provide reliable erosion and sediment control solutions for construction sites, slopes, perimeter protection, and stormwater intake areas. Storm Water Supply offers a selection of high-quality sediment logs — including straw wattles/logs and erosion eels — designed to meet the needs of contractors and site managers nationwide.
What Are Sediment Logs?
Sediment logs, sometimes called erosion control logs or wattles, are cylindrical barriers made from straw, excelsior or synthetic materials. They are placed along slopes, ditches or perimeters to slow water runoff, capture sediment and prevent soil erosion. Properly installed sediment logs help protect waterways, reduce site maintenance and ensure compliance with stormwater regulations.
Types of Sediment Logs We Carry
At Storm Water Supply, we stock a variety of sediment logs for different applications:
- Straw Wattles/Logs: Made from weed-free straw, our wattles and logs are perfect for perimeter protection, ditch checks and slope interruption. They’re affordable, effective and biodegradable.
- Friendly Environment Erosion Eels: Designed for construction sites where soil has been disturbed. It’s perfect for perimeter controls, dam checks and diversion berns.
Tip: Choosing the right sediment log depends on your site conditions, slope and runoff volume. Contact our experts if you need help selecting the right product.
Applications & Installation
Sediment logs are versatile and can be used in a variety of scenarios:
- Perimeter Protection: Install along property boundaries to prevent sediment from leaving your site.
- Slope Interruption: Reduce the velocity of runoff on graded slopes to minimize soil erosion.
- Ditch Checks: Place across drainage channels to capture sediment before it enters waterways.
- Intake Protection: Protect storm drains and catch basins from sediment accumulation.
Installation Tips:
- Place sediment logs along the contour lines of slopes.
- Stake securely into the ground to prevent movement.
- Overlap logs at joints for continuous protection.
- Inspect regularly and replace damaged or saturated logs.

Yes, we can deliver sediment logs to your jobsite or primary yard. Please call us at 563-549-0323 to discuss delivery and lead-time.
We carry sediment log options made from weed-free straw and filter ballast material (100% shredded, recycled tire rubber). Find full equipment specs in these product sheets:
You can purchase sediment logs by contacting Storm Water Supply at (563) 549-0323. You can also use the contact form on our website. During the purchasing process, we will confirm minimum order quantities and pickup or delivery timeframes. We’re also happy to discuss bulk pricing or pallet deals.
You’ll need to evaluate slope steepness, flow volume, expected rainfall and runoff, soil type, site length and environmental sensitivity. Larger diameters and stronger logs will provide greater capacity. We’re happy to help you select the correct product for your job site.

Sediment logs offer multiple benefits, including:
- Relatively cost-effective and flexible for many slopes.
- Easier to install than heavier structures and can conform to contours.
- Provides visible BMP for inspectors and helps with regulatory compliance.
- Helps reduce post-construction cleanup or repair by controlling sediment on site rather than off-site costs.
- Supports faster environmental restoration by controlling sediment early.
A sediment log – also sometimes called a fiber roll – is a tubular erosion and sediment control device made of straw, coconut fiber or similar materials. It’s placed at a contour on slopes or around construction areas to intercept and filter runoff, reduce slope length, slow flow and trap sediment, helping reduce sediment disturbance.
Sediment logs are commonly used on slopes, around perimeters of disturbed soil, at the base of slopes, in channel banks or downslope of earth-moving areas. They are used when you need sediment control but cannot install a permanent barrier or want something interim or that contours to the slope. They are typical in construction sites requiring best management practices (BMPs) for erosion and sediment control.
