I-35 Widening

I-35 Widening

This was a DOT job south of Des Moines where I-35 was being widened. Some of the construction was over the Raccoon River, so our Tough Guy Type 2 turbidity barriers were used to create a static-area in the stream so that sediment could settle out of the disturbed water before running into the main stream. Also used on this project were straw wattles and logs, IA-DOT silt fence and IA-DOT Rural Seed Mix.

Did You Know?

The City of Clinton decided to go with the IA-DOT Rural Seed Mixture for this project and use a double net straw blanket as the mulch cover. The contractor decided to use the 16’ wide “highway rolls” for this project because of the long, open area that was to be done, as well as the increased productivity and shorter installation time that the bigger rolls provide.  Our  ECB roll-out attachment was utilized to help with the installation of the 16’ x 450’ rolls of straw blanket. The roll-out device can be used with a tractor or a skid loader and can be configured on sight to handle 8’ and 16’ wide rolls.
